This beautiful vintage Indonesian batik tulis textile is from Solo, one of the ancient batik producing city in Java.
The Javanese sarong fabric is will look beautiful as an elegant shawl and wrap. Perfect for the boho and eclectic interior and for vintage textile lover and collector.

▪︎A little tear probably during production rather than from use as it has never been used as suggested by the presence of label sticker still on the fabric. Otherwise in very good vintage condition.

It was made with a tool called tjanting, instead of stamped or printing. Every dots and lines were hand drawn in wax individually and then dyed, boiled, rewaxed, and the process was repeated , depending on the complexities of the design. A piece like this can take four to six months or more to produce.
This classic design is called Tribusono, with flaunting peacocks (symbol of love) and floral and fauna motifs. Tribusono is a vintage design, produced between the 50s and 70s. Hence a rare item.
Have been dyed in natural indigo and sogan.
The contrasting panel is called tumpal, meant to be in the middle front when wrapped as a sarong, a perfect position for a flaunting peacock!
