▪︎ABOUT
The berbers take their inspirations from their life and surroundings. The symbols on this basket depict that life. Being in the mountains, it is only natural for them to be from what is around them, animals, insects, plants and flowers. It can also be of life and fertitility, festivals and celebrations.
The X and diamond symbol represent women. They are the most common symbol used which is not surprising as the task of making and weaving are usually undertaken by the women of the household.
This basket was where the dough, which have been kneaded in a wooden trough, were being shaped into discs, ready for baking. Also used to transport them to and fro the public oven.
