The Bataks are ethnic groups predominantly found in Northern Sumatra Indonesia.
Ulos is the traditional cloth of the Bataks.

▪︎As with any vintage items there are signs of wear and tear and dirt marks. I try to show them as much as possible in my pictures.

Different kinds of ulos have different ceremonial significance. They are traditionally hand woven and in the case of higher-quality examples are significant family heirlooms, to be worn at important events, such as funerals, weddings or birth of a child.
These were made from Ulos Sadum worn by women as shawl or scarf, slung on the shoulder.
The long fringes are taken from the same piece. I have used an antique hemp for backing and is fully lined.
