▪︎ABOUT
This ceremonial cloth was woven using the ikat method. The word comes from a Malay word meaning 'to tie'. The yarn are being tied or bound first, as a form of resist, in the desired design and then dyed before being woven into textile. Hence the frayed look in the motifs typical of ikat fabric.

In 'tiang langai uwi' motif which is a pillar made of bamboo in rumah betang (long house) of the Dayak tribe in Kalimantan, representing strength and constancy.
