Some of mens chapan in Uzbekistan are made of woven stripy fabric called beqasam. They are quite often lined with contrasting Russian roller print cotton in beautiful bold floral pattern, padded and quilted together with running stitches, and the edges are also decorated with beautiful tablet woven ribbon called jiyak.
Inspired by these wonderful chapan I have designed and made these cushions using recycled mattress cover made from the Russian roller print cotton. It has also been padded and hand quilted in running stitches and decorated with jiyak, the back of which has also been decorated in running stitches.
The back of this cushion however is in faux beqasam as the stripes have been printed and not woven.
