▪︎ABOUT
Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of the Malay World. It is a luxury product traditionally worn during ceremonial occasions as sarong, shoulder cloths or head ties and tanjak, a headdress.

This piece was hand woven in cotton lurik (stripes). It has been intricately patterned with metal supplementary weft threads, inserted during the weaving process.

The contrasting panel is known as tumpal. It is meant to be worn in middle front or back when wrapped as sarong.

The hem border is n 'pucuk rebung' (bamboo shoots) motif, symbolising strength, growth and rejuvenation while the 'badan' (body) is in bouquet of roses motif, symbolising protection and good luck.
