▪︎ABOUT
It was made with a tool called tjanting, instead of stamped or printing. Every dots and lines were hand drawn individually with hot wax and then dyed, boiled, rewaxed, and the process was repeated , depending on the complexities of the design. A piece like this can take four to six months or more to produce.
It is in a beautiful array of menagerie, tiger, elephants, peacock, monkeys, different kind of birds, and floral and fauna motifs. The design is very much influenced by the Chinese immigrants who mainly settled in the northern coastal town of Java.
The top row of animals are upside down denoting the top of the kain, hence it acts as an "instruction" for the wearer.
