Kemben, the breastcloth, were worn by Javanese women, mainly before the arrival of Islam. It was commonly worn during the Majapahit era until the Mataram sultanate.
It was made with copper stamps. The wax was applied using the stamps and then dyed, boiled, rewaxed, and the process was repeated , depending on the complexities of the design.
