▪︎ABOUT
Pahikung is a weaving technique used on horizontal back tension looms that employs supplementary warps to embellish textiles with an infinite range of geometric and zoomorphic designs, many incorporating the rich iconography of Sumba Island.
It is in the 'habaku' (flying lizard) motif, It symbolises the sudden or unplanned such as illnesses and certain events in life, hence the need to prepare oneself in monetary or capital sense.
The tassels are made from natural dyed cotton yarn from Sumba too and have been embellished with vintage African glass beads.
