Tuban is the only place in all the batik producing villages in Indonesia that grow their own cotton, hand spin them and weave the cloth for the process of batik to continue. Hence the thicker and courser texture , compared to the smooth commercial cotton used by all the other batik producers, but not without its own beauty and a more tactile feel to it.
And the word 'gedog' ? It comes from the sound that the wooden loom makes when the weaver is weaving...gedog gedog gedog!
In Klopo Sekantet (a pair of coconut) motif.
