▪︎ABOUT
This ceremonial cloth was woven using the ikat method. The word comes from a Malay word meaning 'to tie'. The yarn are being tied or bound first, as a form of resist, in the desired design and then dyed before being woven into textile. Hence the frayed look in the motifs typical of ikat fabric.

In 'ticak' (lizard) motif. The ticak makes noise during sunrise, waking up the inhabitants of a dwelling. It is also a form of protection from mosquitoes. The presence of ticak in the home proves that ones home is a sound one. The ancestors of the Dayak people also believes the sound of ticak affirms the truth in someones' speech.
