▪︎ABOUT
Different kinds of ulos have different ceremonial significance. They are traditionally hand woven and in the case of higher-quality examples are significant family heirlooms, to be worn at important events, such as funerals, weddings or birth of a child.

This piece is called Ulos Sadum Angkola, worn by both men and women, slung on shoulder as a scarf. It was also given to a groom by his future in laws on his wedding day to their daughter.

As the name suggests it is from the region of Angkola in Northern Sumatra.
The word 'HORASMAHITA' woven into the piece means good luck. It was meant to be a well wishing piece for the recipient of the ulos .

Beads have been incorporated into the weaving on the band on each end of the ulos, in beautiful geometric pattern.
