▪︎ABOUT
This piece was produced using the tjanting (the copper tool used to apply the wax resist), dyed, boiled and then rewax. The repetition depends on the complexities of the design.
It is in 'parang' motif, which was once the forbidden symbol, reserved only for members of the kraton (palace). In ancient times the 'parang' motif was considered sacred by the Mataram Kings both in Yogyakarta and Surakarta. The Javanese kings saw it as the symbol of authority and power.
The size depending on the stature, the higher you are in rank, the bigger the size.
This particular piece was made in Garut instead of the imperial city of Yogyakarta and Solo where the parang motif originated, hence it is not in the classic sogan and indigo colour.
**pictures are very close representation of the colours but not 100% due to different light conditions and viewing screens.
**not suitable for upholstery project.
